 Green Business Logo
Lakeshore Foundation is proud to be on the forefront of environmentally conscious business practices and operations in the state of Alabama and in some cases, throughout the Southeast. When the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce recently launched its Green Business Initiative, the Foundation was one of the businesses recognized.

Tim Cameron, facility operations coordinator, shared a few of the ways in which Lakeshore is striving to be more environmentally friendly both now and in the future.

Swimming Green
For the past seven years, water has evaporated from the pool to the ground at a steady rate of two to four gallons per minute, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Now, thanks to Tim Cameron's design and ingenuity, that water is being captured into a large tank, cleaned, and then recycled back into the pool. Tim estimates that his water recovery system, which has been approved by the Jefferson County Health Department, is conserving 100,000 gallons of water per month.

Cleaning Green
Starting in April 2008, Lakeshore Foundation began using certified Green cleaning chemicals to clean the floor, bathroom and windows. The new chemicals are safe for the person using them as well as the environment.

Eating Green
Lakeshore purchases paper products from recycled papers instead of plastic products. Some of the cups used are made from corn products which deteriorate within a week versus plastic which takes much longer to decompose.

The Foundation also recycles batteries, plastic, paper, aluminum, inkjet catridges and computer hardware. We currently use flourescent light bulbs which are considered Green and will eventually transition to LED bulbs which are both environmentally friendly and mercury-free.

Lakeshore Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dependent on the support of individuals and corporations in our community.
